The Fleshtones at Colony Woodstock NY

THE FLESHTONES

Often tagged as garage rock revivalists, the Fleshtones mix the fuzz guitar and Farfisa organ sounds of that genre with rockabilly, ’50s and ’60s R&B, and surf into a potent retro stew the group likes to call “super rock.” The group formed in 1976 in Queens, New York with vocalist/keyboardist Peter Zaremba, guitarist Keith Streng, bassist Jan Marek Pakulski, and drummer Bill Milhizer and aimed to return rock & roll to the simplicity and unselfconsciousness of the ’50s and early ’60s. Kat Wright at Colony Woodstock NY

KAT WRIGHT

Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse. Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity proves immediately enchanting. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock ‘n’ roll with a serpentine seduction. Some of soul music’s sweet, grand dames belt, shout, seethe, and succumb, while Wright sings gently like a heartache’s apology.

Lorkin O'Reilly & Brad Armstrong at Colony Woodstock Ny

LORKIN O’RILEY & BRAD ARMSTRONG

Lorkin O’Riley has played extensively on the New York City folk club scene, sharing stages with national acts such as Charlie Parr and Niall Connolly. “He may call Hudson Home, but Lorkin O’Reilly’s music exudes the Scottish terrain from whence he recently came with naught but a guitar on his back, a head full of song, and hands schooled in UK folk avatars John Martyn and Nick Drake” (Chronogram Magazine 2016).”

Brad Armstrong was a principal songwriter and producer of the critically successful and financially disastrous band 13ghosts, which released 6 full length albums between 2002 and 2012 with Birmingham-based Skybucket Records and Atlanta-based This Is American Music. He has been a contributing member of The Dexateens from 2008 to the present.

Lucy Dacus at Colony Woodstock NY

LUCY DACUS

One of rock’s most promising new voices, Lucy Dacus released her sophomore album Historian in 2018, a remarkably assured 10-track statement of intent. It finds her unafraid to take on the big questions – the life-or-death reckonings, and the ones that just feel that way. It’s a record full of bracing realizations, tearful declarations and moments of hard-won peace, expressed in lyrics that feel destined for countless yearbook quotes and first tattoos.

James Maddock at Colony Woodstock NY

JAMES MADDOCK

Since 1999, James Maddock’s boldly vulnerable songwriting, honeyed rasp, and distinct folk and Americana aesthetic have garnered acclaim from icons, peers, and tastemaking outlets like NPR, American Songwriter, Relix Magazine, and CMT Edge. Relix notes: “James Maddock possesses the kind of lived-in, craggy voice that would sound authoritative if he were singing the sports pages. Fortunately, he doesn’t need to do that because his compositional skills are a match for his delivery.” His consistency as a recording artist and a captivating live performer have attracted a devoted fanbase engaged and generous enough to fan fund the last two entries in his six-album oeuvre. He’s performed with Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nile, Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors) and David Immergluck (Counting Crows), sang on an album with Susan McKeown, and has built a respected international profile through tireless touring from the Northeast US to Europe to Australia.
