CHRIS BERGSON & ELLIS HOOKS

“Live albums don’t get any better than this. Bergson and Hooks are both clearly on the rise…Bergson and Hooks have become a modern-day blues-infused Sam and Dave, bringing a similar kind of gritty, rousing blues that is chill-inducing, whether vocally or via Bergson’s stinging, piercing solos (check out “Bitter Midnight”)…Bergson’s guitar lines echo two of his heroes, Hubert Sumlin (with whom he performed in his later years) and Freddie King.” – Glide Magazine

Mason Jennings at Colony Woodstock NY March 12 2020

MASON JENNINGS

When Mason Jennings started writing songs for his new record, Songs From When We Met, he was in a setting he had never written in before. “I was living out at a farm for a month and walking through some old woods on the property every day. There was a river. And each day an owl would come find me, and then perch above me, day or night. I saw lots of snakes. Songs just came to me there. They were coming in so fast they just about took my head off. It was unlike anything I’ve experienced before,” recalls Jennings. In Native American animal medicine snakes symbolize rebirth, owls symbolize seeing what others cannot and turning darkness into light. Both are themes throughout the album and the music has a clear hopeful feeling.

Kat Wright at Colony Woodstock NY Friday March 20

KAT WRIGHT

Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse”. Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity proves immediately enchanting. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock ‘n’ roll with a serpentine seduction. Some of soul music’s sweet, grand dames belt, shout, seethe, and succumb, while Wright sings gently like a heartache’s apology. It’s funky in spots and beautiful all over. And it hurts a little … like it should.

Slambovian Circus of Dreams at Colony Woodstock NY April 11 2020

SLAMBOVIAN CIRCUS OF DREAMS

Formed in Sleepy Hollow, New York over a decade ago, The Slambovian Circus of Dreams (AKA The Grand Slambovians) pioneered the alt-folk/americana genre, staying on the fringes of the music industry and under the radar while producing several critically acclaimed studio albums. ‘A Box of Everything’ the band’s most recent release is a compilation of the ‘Greatest Hits’ you’ve never heard from this reclusive band. Their melodic avant-folk conjures a quirkier Tom Petty or fuller Buffalo Tom with an exotic instrumental arsenal. If you like Dylan, Bowie, The Decemberists, you’ll find a lot to love about this band which features an otherworldly slide mandolin, accordion, cello and styles ranging from dusty Americana ballads to Pink Floydesque cinematic anthems. Headlining major music festivals and venues across the US, Canada and UK, they built their career from the ground up with a loyal fan base supporting them all the way.

Tinder Live! With Lane Moore at Colony Woodstock NY April 16 2020

TINDER LIVE! WITH LANE MOORE

Tinder Live has been named one of the best comedy shows in NYC for good reason. Produced and hosted by NYC based comedian, Lane Moore (The Onion, HBO’s GIRLS, Brooklyn Magazine’s “50 Funniest People In Brooklyn,” former Cosmopolitan Magazine sex & relationships editor, and author of #1 bestseller, How To Be Alone: If You Want To And Even If You Don’t, praised as one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, New York Magazine, NPR, Fast Company, Marie Claire, and many others), Tinder Live is a totally improvised, anything-can-happen interactive comedy showstopper with helpful and oftentimes ridiculous Tinder tips, tricks, real-time swiping, and messaging (and sometimes even real-time phone calls with Tinder matches)! You’ll relate to Moore’s live-swiping and laugh at her reactions and find inspiration in her ridiculous, random emoji-filled messages (and sometimes even phone calls!) to would-be suitors. It’s also a great show to attend with a date, Tinder or otherwise.

During the five years they were together, they successfully transformed the sounds of pre-World War II rural music into a springboard for their good-humored performances. Canned Heat at Colony Woodstock NY April 26 2020

CANNED HEAT

Canned Heat rose to fame because their knowledge and love of blues music was both wide and deep. Emerging in 1966, Canned Heat was founded by blues historians and record collectors Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson and Bob “The Bear” Hite. Hite took the name “Canned Heat” from a 1928 recording by Tommy Johnson. They were joined by Henry “The Sunflower” Vestine, another ardent record collector who was a former member of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. Rounding out the band in 1967 were Larry “The Mole” Taylor on bass, an experienced session musician who had played with Jerry Lee Lewis and The Monkees and Adolfo “Fito” de la Parra on drums who had played in two of the biggest Latin American bands, Los Sinners and Los Hooligans.

A Rare Pairing of Musical Friends w/ Freebo, Howe, Marotta & Traum at Colony Woodstock NY April 30 2020

A RARE PARING OF MUSICAL FRIENDS: FREEBO, HOWE, MAROTTA & TRAUM

Alice Howe’s path to “up-and-coming” artist seems both fated and winding. She grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, in a home filled with music and art. Long outdoor walks were encouraged, and Howe would often disappear to wander through her grandmother’s garden next door or to journal and turn experiences into songs. “I can’t remember not singing,” she says with a laugh. While music was always her companion, it didn’t become her profession until she decided to attend the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference in 2016…(MORE)

Terry Reid & the Cosmic Americam Derelicts at Colony Woodstock NY May 9 2020

TERRY REID & THE COSMIC AMERICAN DERELICTS

Terry Reid first came to the public’s attention back in 1965 when he was asked to open up for the Rolling Stones on their UK Tour, subsequent tour openers for Cream, Savoy Brown, Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Black sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix further enhanced Terry’s reputation as one of the most powerful and soulful voices in the British music scene. Jimmy Page even asked Terry to form a band, which with Terry’s help became Led Zeppelin. Terry had to turn down the offer from Page, as he had already signed a contract to tour the states with the Stones-Ya-Ya’s Tour. Terry recommended both Plant and Bonham for the gig, and the rest is history. Terry has released six studio albums and two live albums over the course of his 50 year career. Terry has performed thousands of gigs throughout UK/Europe, US, and Japan over the course of his storied career. A Terry Reid show isn’t just a concert, it is an adventure of songs, stories and laughter. Come on out and see why Terry’s nickname is Superlungs!

The Remains at Colony Woodstock NY Friday May 15 2020

THE REMAINS

The Remains 55 year musical adventure began when Barry Tashian, Vern Miller, Bill Briggs and Chip Damiani met at Boston University in 1964. There was musical magic in the air from the first time they played together. They began performing at a favorite local watering hole, The Rathskeller, and soon, the lines stretched from Kenmore Square to Fenway Park on Remains’ night at “The Rat.” It wasn’t long before word got out and record labels came courting the band…(MORE)

Andy Shauf at Colony Woodstock NY Saturday May 16 2020

ANDY SHAUF

Few artists are storytellers as deft and disarmingly observational as Andy Shauf. The Toronto-based, Saskatchewan-raised musician’s songs unfold like short fiction: they’re densely layered with colorful characters and a rich emotional depth. On his new album The Neon Skyline (out January 24 via ANTI-), he sets a familiar scene of inviting a friend for beers on the opening title track: “I said, ‘Come to the Skyline, I’ll be washing my sins away.’ He just laughed, said ‘I’ll be late, you know how I can be.'” The LP’s 11 interconnected tracks follow a simple plot: the narrator goes to his neighborhood dive, finds out his ex is back in town, and she eventually shows up. While its overarching narrative is riveting, the real thrill of the album comes from how Shauf finds the humanity and humor in a typical night out and the ashes of a past relationship.
